OUR MISSION
The City of Ava and the Department of Parks and Recreation is committed to providing the community with a high quality recreational and leisured environment. We work hard to create a family-friendly environment that respects the values of all community members.
OVERVIEW
Located in the heart of the hills; Ava and all of Douglas County is a recreational paradise. In the city of Ava, a variety of recreational options are available. The City has two parks. Militia Springs Park is located in the NE part of town on 3rd Street. This park is equipped with playground equipment, barbecue grills, and covered picnic tables. The Ava City Park is equipped with a baseball diamond, soccer field, swimming pool, tennis courts, a multi-purpose trail, picnic pavilion, as well as picnic tables conveniently placed throughout the park. Ava also has a variety of different sports that our community and local schools participate in including: soccer, baseball, softball, volleyball, basketball, cross country, football, and golf.
If sports is not your pleasure, then Ava has other possibilities for you. The Douglas County Public Library has a huge supply of books, Internet access, and various summer programs for children. Filled with exhibits and artifacts from a by-gone era, the Douglas County Museum is a great place to spend your afternoon. Ava also has several antique shops to browse through and local clothing stores to satisfy any shopper.
Sportsmen gather to this area to hunt deer, turkey, squirrels, rabbit, raccoon and other small game that live in our woodlands. Fishing and canoeing in our clean, sparkling streams is another favorite past time. In addition to our own local streams, Bull Shoals Lake is just 30 minutes south of town making boating, water skiing, and other water sports available in just a stone's throw away.
Ava and the surrounding area have something to offer everyone in the way of recreation.
